課程概述

This course addresses several important issues concerning the medical management and developmental care of high-risk infants. The issues consist of fetal development, common complications and managements of high-risk infants, assessment and treatment of infants with neurological, respiratory and feeding disorders, neurodevelopmental examination and early intervention, and long term developmental follow-up.  

課程目標
By the completion of this course, students will be able to:
1. Describe the historical revolution of developmental care for high-risk infants.
2. Describe the typical and atypical fetal growth;
3. Describe the clinical manifestation, outcome and treatment of infants with neurologic and respiratory diseases;
4. Describe and perform neonatal neurobehavioral assessment, and to design appropriate intervention program for high-risk infants in the neonatal period; and
5. Apply the knowledge and principle from this course to critique on a chosen clinical intervention of interest on its theoretical soundness, effectiveness, and limitations.

7.2. Consistently and critically evaluate sources of information related to pediatric physical therapy practice, research and education and apply knowledge from these sources in a scientific manner
7.3. Consistently integrate the best evidence for practice from sources of information with clinical judgment and patient/client values to determine the best care for the patient/client 
課程要求
Students and faculty are mutually responsible for this course. Students and faculty are expected to demonstrate appropriate professional behavior including mutual respect, timeliness, and dress; responsibility for active learning, accountability and accurate self-assessment. In this course, students and faculty will
1. Use clinical knowledge and skills that apply patient/client care.
2. Apply the early intervention theoretical framework to patient/client examination and evaluation.
3. Analyze how biological and environmental factors may influence patient’s/client’s development and vice versa.
4. Use scientific principles and rationale to support decisions.
